26 year old Zimbabwean Eric Moyo from Bulawayo won the MNET East and Southern Africa Idols contest at the weekend (July 27th) and walked away with a USD$80,000 cash prize and a recoding deal with Sony BMG worth US$25,000. His song choice at the finale was ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’ during which he chocked up with tears when he spotted his parents in the crowd for the first time this season. Next up for Eric is a trip to South Africa to record his first single “This Is My Everything” and soon after start work on his album.
It is a good thing when Zimbabweans achieve such successes which should be celebrated and even more so as it is a break from all the issues facing the nation. Eric has a unique voice and some people may not be convinced that he is Idol material but you can be the judge of that.
