Happy That Bona Mugabe Was Raped?

August 3, 2010

People, Rights

Over the weekend, reports surfaced that a Tracy Guvamombe was allegedly raped by two Tanzanian students in the South East Asian country where she attends university. The twist in this story is that Tracy is Bona Mugabe, the daughter of President Mugabe.

Without going into the details (which you can read here), the thing that was a little disturbing was the fact that some people found it quite amusing that she went through the ordeal. Some of the comments scattered across the internet include:

- Now she knows what it is like and what her father has been unleashing on innocent civilians its a pity she is not also made to dance on her parents grave singing mdc songs.
- Have not heard such good news in a very long time. Nditumireiwo mvura, kwandiri kunopisa.
- You see God is fair, those who rape other peoples children will also have their children raped. Too bad Bona, you were pretty.
- let Mugabe and Grace taste their own medicine, girls were raped during his 2008 violent campaign, now zvaitikawo kwake, that is revenge from the all mighty.Cde the same bitterness you feel is exactly how we felt when our beloved ones were raped. Zvaiwana ngwarati
(note: these are the comments expressed by various individuals across the internet)

The few listed above are the more “tamer” ones. There are a few out there where the commenters did not hold back any feelings.  The questions at hand is whether or not those types of comments were warranted? Her father is who he is and he has done what he has done. That being said, should she be held accountable for her father’s actions? This is not to say that all the comments that people are making are ones of joy and celebration. Some individuals were unhappy that others were revelling in the fact that someone was raped.

If Bona was in fact raped, this is a violation of her human rights. Should she not then be accorded the same kind of justice that other victims of this crime seek? Or, is this something that she does deserve because of who she is?

    Proverbs 24:17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;
Job 31:29 “Have I rejoiced at the extinction of my enemy, Or exulted when evil befell him?
Psalm 35:15 But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered themselves together; The smiters whom I did not know gathered together against me, They slandered me without ceasing.
Psalm 35:19 Do not let those who are wrongfully my enemies rejoice over me; Nor let those who hate me without cause wink maliciously.
Proverbs 17:5 He who mocks the poor taunts his Maker; He who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.
Obadiah 1:12 “Do not gloat over your brother’s day, The day of his misfortune. And do not rejoice over the sons of Judah In the day of their destruction; Yes, do not boast In the day of their distress.

All those who rejoiced for the rape of Bona. I must admit, you are evil. How can you say the rape of another person is good because the father is evil?

Shall we all chase white people in Zimbabwe because they colonised us??? Or shall we kill all children whose parents we found guilty of murder and other crimes??? What then is the different between a murderer and somebody who celebrate and advocate it??

Whats wrong with you?? You make me sick!!! Mugabe stands as Mugabe and Bona is Bona. She is only the daughter of a father and nothing else. All the politics of Zimbabwe has got nothing to do with Bona. Thats why even in Zimbabwe people are raping each other, its because of you who celebrate at it and advocate for the rape of others. How can you say raping Bona can be justified while raping the other can not be????

You are the ones who are evil… You no heart at all… You make me sick..

Mushy leads a great argument with some valid points. There is no room for anything other than compassion for Bona. Rape is a crime that cannot be celebrated.
We must not celebrate rape under any circumstance.
What other people are feeling towards Mugabe is a different matter. We can only hope that this experience will open his eyes to the pain and suffering rape causes. This is separate from rejoicing about rape.
Looking at this many months after the initial report shows that lessons may not have been learned.

Guys, let’s know what to play with. There is nothing amusing about a girl being raped. Be sensible and know whom you call by “Mwari” or “God” as if you want yim to take your part. I am sorry for lots of MDC supporters here when they celebrate about God being on their side: God is not for one person, he is for us all. What about the ignominy of Pius Ncube who was an outspoken critic of Mugabe: what did we see in the end? only shame for anyone who calls God’s name in vain. God can’t be manipulated by your wishes: He is too grand for our petty politics no matter how strongly you feel. Bona needs emotional support, if it is true. But I have my own doubts about this story: or even about the identity of the girl as Bona. You may revel in some other person who isn’t Bona and you would have exposed your folly through this. Kurai varuem!

so let me get this straight by some of your comments, god by which ever name you call him appreciates your delight at a womans rape? um huh. if you still wonder why our people are in the predicament they are in in africa and the diaspora after listening to yourselves you are fools who deserved the treatment you claim was so unjust.

All rapists should be burnt at a stake. Bona i am so sorry you went through what you went through and if u ever need an avenging angel, i will gladly offer my services. To those that are ‘happy’ this happened i hope u all burn in hell, what kind of human beings are you to take joy from another’s pain. You people are a disgrace.

This is the very reason we will never move forward as a nation. NO ONE deserves to be violated and abused like that. This tit for tat attitude is a very big reason our country went down hill.

I feel very disturbed by many of the above comments they are so inconsiderate to such an extent that you would imagine what kind of anarchy would befall bobs depature from mainstream politics.this case has nothing to do with the old man but an innocent girl who was physicaly abused bona did not choose to be bobs daughter so instead of celebrating her ordeal we should actually pray for her for we all know god would never sanction such an act.

It really makes me sick that people r delighting in the fact that an innocent girl was raped. How dare you put God in that place and use His name to push your own agendas and frustrations? God is a Holy God who certainly doesn’t delight in such evil. Bona is a victim, and we shld pray for her.

I’m so sorry to Bona if its really happened, but I doubt coz how come the president’s daughter be anywhere without bodyguards. I believe all families of any president should have security wherever they’re. President Mugabe is not a fool who can just leave his daughter loitering around alone.
